Velia Newman’s no-hold-barred approach to brilliant color and substantial texturing makes her painting style singular and extraordinary. The artist captures childlike excitement and simplicity in her work along with the thrill of bold colors and cheerful subject matter – perfect to express her love of the indigenous beauty of Australian flowers. Her most beloved tool for painting is the palette knife, and she employs several innovative paint application techniques with this along with others. Using thick layering in a technique inspired by abstract artists, she creates three-dimensional representation of what she sees to be the ‘essence of nature’.

Born in Sydney, Australia in 1969, Velia Newman turned her love for acrylic paints into a unique and exciting style that captured childlike excitement and simplicity, along with the thrill of bold colors and cheerful subject matter. This was perfect in allowing her to express her love of the indigenous beauty of Australian beaches, bush, and garden flowers. Favoring the palette knife, Newman employs several innovative paint application techniques with this tool. Newman has been featured in exhibitions with acclaimed Australian artists such as David Boyd, Geoff Dyer (Archibald Prize winner) and many others. She is also represented in numerous galleries throughout Australia, Asia, United Kingdom and United States.
